About this press conference: Before touching down on American soil, the Beatles were the nation's number one group. On February 7th 1964, The Beatles flew from London to New York City for a ten day American visit. Unprecedented hysteria filled John F. Kennedy Airport, the Plaza Hotel, and the streets of New York City, surrounding the Beatles' every move. This first American press conference was held at Kennedy International Airport on February 7th. The scene was chaos and the noise level in the room made it sometimes difficult for the reporters to hear the questions and answers. Although George Harrison would fall ill with the flu, on February 9th the Beatles would perform on American network television for their historic first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show. The Beatles staged their fourth concert tour of America in August 1966, and it was the last commercial tour they undertook. Lasting a total of 19 performances, with 17 shows in American venues and two in Canada, it was plagued with backlash regarding the controversy of John Lennon's remark about the Beatles being "more popular than Jesus", death threats, and the band's own dissatisfaction with the noise levels and their ability to perform live

The Beatles played two shows at the Seattle Coliseum on 25 August 1966, the twelfth date of their final tour. The group flew from Los Angeles at 10am, and stayed at Seattle's Edgewater Inn. They held a press conference at the hotel, where Paul McCartney was asked repeatedly about false claims that he was due to marry Jane Asher the following day. In Seattle, Paul was questioned by journalists over a rumour that he was about to get married.
