You Have the Right to Remain Silent. is the sole album by the band X-Cops. It was released in 1995. The photos on the inside of the CD booklet depict a murder crime scene being investigated by the X-Cops. On the wall in the victim's room is a poster of Gwar, the X-Cops' (at the time secret) identity. The poster features the cover of Scumdogs of the Universe. The victim is also wearing GWAR shorts, which the band sold at concerts and through the back pages of their comic books in the 90s.

From an absurdly under-rated artist - Jackie Leven creates yet more song-writing splendour in this early solo work of his. From the rock/punk of his tragically forlorn 80s band 'Doll by Doll', Jackie Leven has pursued an equally majestic, yet reticent solo career. The 'Mystery Of Love Is Greater Than The Mystery Of Death' is the beginning of this. This is not to mention the reflective 'Heartsick Land' as one of many standout songs. The album is a wonder to listen to, but is just the start of Jackie's charming portfolio of albums. The only reason i have not given it 5/5 is because in the grand scheme of things, other Jackie albums such as 'Fairytales For Hardmen', 'Nightlilies' and 'Forbidden Songs Of The Dying West' are all in all, more complete albums - the work of genius.

Jackie Leven knew few boundaries, and could be so terrifying he intimidated Hawkwind, but his music was weighed down with a deep sorrow. The son of a London-Irish father and a mother from the north-east of England, Leven was born in Fife on 14 June, 1950. He went to the same Kirkcaldy school as Gordon Brown, but felt branded by his Romany heritage. Walking home one night after a session for his solo album, he was attacked, asphyxiated and almost killed. During the two years when he could neither speak nor sing – he never fully regained his falsetto – Leven succumbed to heroin addiction. After quitting through a mixture of acupuncture and psychic healing, he set up the Core Trust, a holistic treatment centre for alcoholics and addicts that continues to thrive today.
