Rainier Fog is the sixth studio album by Alice in Chains and third with William Duvall. The title of the album is a reference to Mount Rainier in Seattle. The album was influenced by Seattle itself and was recorded in Seattle. Rainier Fog Q&A.
Rainier Fog. Out Now. All Music. Release Date: August 24, 2018. Record Label: BMG. The One You Know.
Rainier Fog is the third Alice in Chains album recorded with DuVall, a singer-guitarist who helped the band experience an unexpected new chapter following the death of Staley. After a 2006 world tour together, ideas for new music began to emerge. You get guys like us together and shit’s just going to start happening, says Cantrell, who first worked with DuVall when he toured as part of the guitarist’s Degradation Trip solo tour. Obviously we had gone through a change, but we hadn’t lost our identity. Black Gives Way to Blue was their first album together in 2009, followed by The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here in 2013, and some of the newer songs (including Check My Brain ) have found a permanent place in the set list beside Rooster and Man in the Box. The new album comes after a wait of five years, partly from working out a new record deal with BMG.

Rainier Fog arrived in late August, debuting at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart, but topping both Billboard's Rock Alternative and Hard Music Charts. The band toured extensively in support of the album earlier this year, and will catch a little holiday breather before firing up the touring machine again
Early promotional efforts surrounding the release of Rainier Fog, the sixth studio album from Alice in Chains, centered around the group’s birthplace of Seattle. The quartet played an acoustic set atop the Space Needle, as well as a secret show at the Crocodile, the local venue co-owned by drummer Sean Kinney. To cap it off, the Seattle Mariners held an Alice in Chains Night, during which guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell threw out the ceremonial first pitch as the band’s 1992 hit Would? played over Safeco Field’s PA system.
Rainier Fog is the first Alice in Chains album in more than 20 years to be recorded in Seattle, where the band recorded at the same studio where, once upon a time, they laid down their 1995 self-titled LP. Additional recording was done in Nashville and Los Angeles with the help of producer Nick Raskulinecz and engineer Paul Figueroa. It was mixed by Joe Barresi (Queens of the Stone Age, Tool).
With that, Cantrell launches into talking about Rainier Fog, Alice in Chains’ newest studio album and sixth full-length offering overall. Recorded in five different locales - including, in large part, Seattle’s Studio X, which (back when it was known as Bad Animals) was where Alice in Chains tracked their 1995 self-titled album - the new effort is indeed, to use Cantrell’s own words, something of quality
