Yessongs is the first live album by the English rock band Yes, released as a triple album in May 1973 on Atlantic Records. After completing their Close to the Edge Tour in April 1973, the band selected live recordings between February and December 1972 on their tours supporting Fragile (1971) and Close to the Edge (1972) for a live album release.

Although they had turned in five studio long-players, the vast majority of Yessongs (1973) is drawn from their three most recent endeavors The Yes Album (1970), Fragile (1971), and Close to the Edge (1972). There are two exceptions, the first being the "Opening (Excerpt from "Firebird Suite")" - which comes from the 1969 Boston Symphony Orchestra's recording, conducted by Seiji Ozawa. The other is Rick Wakeman's keyboard solo "Excerpts from 'The Six Wives Of Henry VIII'.

Most of the tracks from The Yes Album sound much better in Yessongs, specially Your Move/All good People because they join the two songs with a breathtaking drums section, creating and explosive moment instead of the annoying blank space left in Yes Album between the tracks that separates both songs forcing the band to start all over again

called progressive for a reason.

Yessongs features the classic Yes lineup of Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman and Alan White on all but two cuts, in which Bill Bruford handles the drumming duties prior to being replaced by White. Originally a three-LP set back in the days of vinyl record albums, the CD version is two discs. Recorded in the early 1970's, the sound holds up surprisingly well  . If your introduction to Yes was Owner Of A lonely Heart, the Drama album or you prefer the material from their first two albums, you won't find any of that version of the band represented here. My advice is to YouTube Yessongs, listen to a few samples, then make an informed purchase decision. Please - don't grab a bootleg download.

Yessongs especially documents the live tour of their fifth studio album Close To The Edge. It also features two live tracks Perpetual Change and Long Distance Runaround/The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus), which were recorded during the previous tour of their fourth studio album Fragile  . Yessongs was a very ambitious project and a huge risk for the group and for their record label, the Atlantic Records. It was presented in one of the most luxurious album packages until then. The package features artworks by Roger Dean and inside of it there are four individual panels. The artwork of Dean, which has begun with their two previous studio albums, was spread across a triple gatefold cover that continued the same concept design motifs of their two previous works. This is one of most beautiful covers ever created.
