Pianist, keyboardist, and composer Herbie Hancock is one of the all-time jazz greats. Born in Chicago, Illinois on April 12, 1940, he began studying piano at the age of 7 and became interested in jazz during high school. In his college years, he was torn between a career in engineering and his love of music. 7 – THRUST (1974) Thrust continued Hancock’s jazz fusion ventures. It was the keyboardist’s follow-up to his 1973 monumental Head Hunters album and almost replicated its commercial success, peaking at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 200 listing.
