Lainhart was born in 1953 in Vestal, New York, studied composition at the State University of New York at Joel Chadabe, a pioneer of electroacoustic music. As a composer of avant-garde electronic music, he received the piece of White Night, which appeared in 1975 on Brian Eno's album Discreet Music. His compositions have been performed in England, Sweden, Germany, Australia and Japan except in the USA. A retrospective of his works from the 1970s and 1980s, was released in 2001 on the double album Ten Thousand Shades of Blue. The Wave - Sounding Sea (2010). Polychromatic Integers (2011).

All composition reveal weird, spacious and transcendent drone ambiences.
