You Can Call Me Al" is a song by the American singer-songwriter Paul Simon. It was the lead single from his seventh studio album, Graceland (1986), released on Warner Bros. Written by Simon, its lyrics follow an individual seemingly experiencing a midlife crisis. Its lyrics were partially inspired by Simon's trip to South Africa and experience with its culture. Released in September 1986, "You Can Call Me Al" became one of Simon's biggest solo hits, reaching the top five in seven countries.

Produced by Paul Simon. You Can Call Me Al Lyrics. A man walks down the street He says, "Why am I soft in the middle, now? Why am I soft in the middle? The rest of my life is so hard I need a photo-opportunity I want a shot at redemption Don't want to end up a cartoon In a cartoon graveyard" Bonedigger, Bonedigger Dogs in the moonlight Far away in my well-lit door Mr. Beerbelly, Beerbelly Get these mutts away from me You know, I don't find this stuff amusing anymore

In a 1990 interview with SongTalk magazine, Simon explained: "'You Can Call Me Al' starts off very easily with sort of a joke: 'Why am I soft in the middle when the rest of my life is so hard?' Very easy words. Then it has a chorus that you can't understand. What is he talking about, you can call me Betty, and Betty, you can call me Al? You don't know what I'm talking about. But I don't think it's bothersome. Andrew from London, EnglandThe "Al" in the song is Paul Simon. He & his then wife patty threw a party and the famous conductor Pierre Boulez attended. As Boulez left he turned to Simon and remarked "Great party Al! Say hello to Betty". Thus Simon received th eultimate put down from a world famous musician!

Video clip of Paul Simon's hit song "You Can Call Me Al" from the album Graceland. A comedy act starring both Simon and Chevy Chase with a concept created by Lorne Michaels where Chase's character is having a photo opportunity by stealing the act from Simon while dubbing his song. Later on, both enjoy some good moments doing some choreographed moves and playing some of the instruments used in the song.

My version has a song by Falco on the flip-side, but the label is Gumboots. Also the WB logo is missing (no idea if that is the regular label as i also have one that is missing the logo but has the correct flip-side).Must be worth millions, this misprint ;-)
