Magnification is the nineteenth studio album by the English progressive rock band Yes, released on 10 September 2001 by Eagle Records. It is their last album recorded with singer Jon Anderson in the band, and their only one recorded as a four-piece and without a keyboardist.

Magnification (album). Magnification is the nineteenth studio album by the English rock band Yes, released in September 2001 on Eagle Records. Following their 2000 Masterworks Tour and the departure of keyboardist Igor Khoroshev, the remaining four members, Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Steve Howe, and Alan White, decided to write material for a new album with added orchestral arrangements, something they also did for Time and a Word (1970). It marks the only Yes album recorded as a four-piece and without a dedicated keyboardist (although White does play piano on the album).

Right by the Orchestra gets Magnification something of a concept album, which is actually not true, because the album no connecting story tells. Though the orchestra gives the already dramatic symphonic album an extra load in the pace and the alternation between the vocals, the long guitar solos and the beautiful violin arrangements. Magnification is an atmospheric album that evokes nice memories of the 1970s, highlighted by the long drawn out Give Love Each Day and the subsequent Can You Imagine.

With Magnification, Yes has taken that a step further, adding a symphony orchestra. The orchestra is not simply thrown over the top, though; the songs were written for this particular grouping. Yes has flirted with this type of thing before. Released in 1970, the Time and a Word album featured a string section, but the complete integration is what makes Magnification a superior work. The material on the CD is pretty standard modern Yes fare, but the addition of that symphony really does create a whole new texture

Only 8 left in stock (more on the way). Only 7 left in stock (more on the way). I first got it when it was first released. Somehow I lost it, and got this replacement. This one is better, because the bonus disc has better songs and better live performances. I love all of Yes, but this one is different from most.
