Medeski Martin & Wood, Bachir Attar & Marc Ribot)", "Baraka (feat. Mickey Hart & DJ Logic)", "Djebala Hills (feat. Falu, John Zorn, Flea & Billy Martin)", and many more. Led by the Attar family, the The Master Musicians of Jajouka have captured the imagination of countless musicians and fans over the years, ranging from Brian Jones (who released an album of their music) to William S. Burroughs (who called them a 4,000-year-old rock band ). Hailing from the Rif Mountains of northern Morocco-and existing in one form or another for a thousand years-the mythical group uses atonal horns and chattering drums that sound as old as the hills. They're so primordial that you could imagine this as the soundtrack for the start of life on Earth
'The music of Jajouka is trance music, ecstatic music, a music narcotic. From its source a particular village in the southern Rif mountains of Morocco this magical music has migrated around the world, moving like clouds, like water, like smoke - flowing through the collective consciousness of its appreciators,'' writes Jim Jarmusch in the liner notes to The Road to Jajouka, a new recording that pays tribute to the legendary Master Musicians of Jajouka. All profits from album sales will benefit The Jajouka Foundation, a non-profit organization established in 2013 to foster awareness and preservation of this ancient ceremonial music.
The album opens with 'Hand of Fatima,' which features a MMW reunion, along with Marc Ribot on banjo and various guitars. The song plays Jajoukan music with MMW's signature groove. Bachir Attar provides spoken word. In the end, we have Billy Martin and friends to thank for this benefit. Through their efforts, we find that the Road to Jajouka is indeed worth travelling. 2 people found this helpful.

Various Artists – The Road To Jajouka (Howe). September 23rd, 2013. Fortunately, their various contributions don’t detract from the overall sound. Hand of Fatima and Jnuin, for example, tend to evolve out of seemingly random sequencing, pulsating through a weird combination of acid jazz and traditional trappings. Even when the mood takes an ominous turn, as on the transcendent Djebala Hills, the end effect remains mesmerising
