Asking for It" is a song by the American alternative rock band Hole. It is the fourth track on the band's second studio album, Live Through This, released on April 12, 1994 on Geffen Records. The song was written by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Courtney Love and lead guitarist Eric Erlandson.

Considered by many to be their magnum opus, Live Through This, Hole’s second studio album following Pretty On the Inside (1991), was met with much acclaim: critics praised Courtney Love’s crooning as she sings of life’s pressures and her own personal challenges. Many of her lyrics cover deeply-rooted emotions, spanning topics such as motherhood, depression, child abuse, and self-image, as well as her transcendence over her personal issues.

Hole, ‘Live Through This’. On Hole's breakthrough album, Courtney Love wants to be "the girl with the most cake," and she spends the whole album paying for it, in the melodic punk-rock anguish of "Miss World," "Softer, Softest" and "Doll Parts. Her husband Kurt Cobain's body was found just days before the album was released.

The first thing you need to know about Live Through This, Hole’s sophomore effort and major-label debut, is that the album arrived on April 12, 1994, four days after Kurt Cobain was found dead. That means none of these songs-all about fame and familial drama and even suicide-were written by a widowed woman.

Live Through This is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Hole. It was released by DGC Records on April 12, 1994, one week after frontwoman Courtney Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, died by suicide in their home. It is the only Hole album to feature bassist Kristen Pfaff before her death in June 1994.
