The Rolling Stones' 1970 European Tour was a concert tour of Continental Europe that took place during the late summer and early fall of 1970. This was the Stones' first tour in Europe since 1967, and became part of a pattern (not always followed) wherein the group would play North America, continental Europe, and the United Kingdom on a three-year rotating cycle.

The Rolling Stones 1970 Tour. Balstika Halen, Malmo, Sweden. Europe 1970 comes in the aftermath of a 1969 US tour that ended with the infamous Altamont "Free Concert". The Stones pull no punches, as the intensity of the performances will convey as we explore the recorded history of what is musically a breakthrough tour for the band. The key difference in this tour is the first use of a brass section in live performances by the Stones.

and the new millennium that still sees them doing great live shows. The last official album was A Bigger Bang from 2005, and they've more or less stopped making new stuff since. The Beatles quit the concerts to concentrate on the studio. The Stones, being the live band they always were, quit the studio to concentrate on the concerts.

1970 may have marked a new decade, at least on the calendar, but as you'll see in the below list of 1970's Best Rock Albums, it was still pretty much the '60s musically. A few new names surface here and there, but for the most part, the year was dominated by many of the previous decade's biggest artists, including the Doors, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. If the LPs on our list of 1970's Best Rock Albums seem like an end, rather than a beginning, that's because it was. The '70s would need another few years to kick into gear. Some of music's biggest bands even chose to sit out the first year of the new decade (both the Rolling Stones and the Who released live albums instead of new studio projects), choosing to recover rather than start anew. So yeah, the calendar may have turned to "1970," but 1970's Best Rock Albums were still stuck in the '60s. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
