Meshuggah's debut album, Contradictions Collapse, was originally released in 1991, albeit not in the . Although it's not quite as accomplished as their later work, it's certainly a worthwhile listen, especially for devoted fans.

I have the Contradictions Collapse/None split as well. This was one of the first things I bought by Meshuggah, and quite frankly, it suprised me. I was expecting something more like I, but instead I got what sounds like a weird time signature version of Metallica. Granted, I think it's great, it's just different. Commensalistic Pestilence. Contradictions Collapse is an old-school thrash metal album with some progressive touches to the composition. Sure, some of Meshuggah's future penchant for songwriting with long lengths and sudden changes is here, but otherwise this is a massive departure from their future works. Of all Meshuggah albums that get the most listens, this one would have to be it. It represents an era in Meshuggah alone; where as None - Chaosphere represented crushing polyrhythms that got increasingly faster, and how Nothing thru Catch - 33 saw Meshuggah exploring the possibilities of their music as conceptual art, Contradictions Collapse an album alone. The music here is speed metal with great use of polyrhythms and progressive song structures.
