Manchester Children's Choir and The Choristers Of St. Nicholas College - Angelic Voices (EP). The Choristers Of St. Nicholas College. Brother James Air ‎(Shellac, 12").

The King's College Choir is a British choir. It is considered one of today's most accomplished and renowned representatives of the great English choral tradition.

The Choir of St John's College, Cambridge is considered to be one of the finest collegiate choirs in the world. It is part of the English cathedral tradition, having been founded to sing the daily liturgy in the College Chapel, though it is set apart from other English choirs of this tradition by the frequent inclusion of Continental works in its repertoire and its emphasis on polyphonic interpretations.

The Choir of Magdalen College, Oxford was founded in 1480 with provision made in the statutes for 16 singing boys, eight Academical Clerks and four chaplains. Magdalen College was then one of the oldest and largest choral foundations in late-medieval England, and this historic legacy has been preserved and maintained over five centuries. The Academical Clerks now number 12 and the Consort of Voices was founded in 2010, offering opportunities to women students to sing in the Chapel on a weekly basis. In addition to the regular round of services, the College Choir sing at a number of special occasions throughout the year, including the famous May Day celebrations, an ancient tradition dating back to the 16th century. Services on Tuesdays are normally sung by the Choristers alone, on Fridays by the Academical Clerks alone, and on Saturdays by the Consort of Voices.

For two years the Choristers of the Choir School program at the school had practiced every day and learned to sing over 100 pieces of music. They had gained a reputation in the wider community and had sung for outside events as well as concerts with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. As a tribute to those two years and to record the musical achievements of the choristers we decided to record this CD. The ten anthems and songs include some of the best-loved items. The first track, Brother James’ Air, was firmly identified as a school anthem. We are also grateful to the Rev Carey Stone, Michael Monnikendam and the people of St Luke’s for the use of their church. released May 22, 2012.

Are you a parent of a child who loves to sing? Join the choir. Our goal is to instill a love of music in young children and their families. As the great master Zoltán Kodály expressed, "Only the best music is good enough for our children. Choristers is open to boys and girls who are in at least 4th grade. Singers further develop their skills from unison into two-part singing. Singer should be able to: To gain admission into Choristers singers should be able to: Match pitch with good intonation (in-tune) in the treble range. Know the lines and spaces of the treble staff.

In the early years, the fortunes of College, the Chapel and the Choir were closely tied to those of the reigning monarch. During the Wars of the Roses, and especially after Henry VI’s capture in 1455 and death in 1461, Edward IV cut the revenues to the College and reduced the number of choristers (until 1467, when the number was restored to sixteen). The Choir fared little better during the reign of Richard III and in the early years of Henry VII’s rule. Originally the choristers appear to have been local Cambridgeshire lads, either the sons of College servants or of those working elsewhere in the University, or of the lay clerks of the Chapel. But by time of Elizabeth I’s rule, they were drawn from across southern England, with three Devon-born boys recorded as having sung for the Queen herself.
