Animal Instinct" is an alternative rock song by Irish band The Cranberries. It is the second single from the band's fourth album, Bury the Hatchet, released in 1999. The song deals with motherhood. A music video, directed by Olivier Dahan, was released to promote the single. The single became the band's first single to miss the UK Top 40, charting at number 54 (not including the original chart position of "Linger").

The hiatus was caused by vocalist Dolores O'Riordan taking time to recover from a breakdown after which she gave birth to her first child, Taylor. Said O'Riordan: "My son helped me get better.
