Chávez Ravine: A Record by Ry Cooder is the twelfth studio album by Ry Cooder. The housing was never built. Ultimately the Brooklyn Dodgers built a stadium on the site as part of their move to Los Angeles. Chávez Ravine was nominated for "Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album" in 2006.

Chávez Ravine ‎(CD, Album, Sli). A deeply-moving literary and artistic project from Ry Cooder, part of a formidable series of works exploring the past of Los Angeles's humanity. Those works include My Name Is Buddy and I, Flathead (The Songs Of Kash Buk And The Klowns), plus his City Lights-published book, Los Angeles Stories. Reply Notify me 2 Helpful.

Ry Cooder can never be accused of being a slouch when it comes to musical output, but in recent years he has seemed far too much of an enthusiast for other people's work to release an album solely under his own name. Guerrero died earlier this year at the age of 88, and this brave, wildly original album stands as a memorial for him as much as for the long-lost neighbourhood of Chavez Ravine.

Ry Cooder’s Chávez Ravine-a post World War II–era American narrative of cool cats, radios, UFO sightings, J. Edgar Hoover, red scares, and baseball-is a tribute to the long-gone Los Angeles Latino enclave known as Chávez Ravine. Using real and imagined historical characters, Cooder and friends created an album that recollects various aspects of the poor but vibrant hillside Chicano community, which was bulldozed by developers in the 1950s in the interest of progress ; Dodgers Stadium ultimately was built on the site

i REALLY adore the concept for this album a lot, but its muddled with too many tracks fogging the concept. the loads of filler that don't honestly belong in this album. it has too much on it to really make it an easy listen, mainly because it keeps switching up styles. Or consider a donation? #20.
