With a Little Help from My Fwends is the second main album of the "Fwends" series by American rock band the Flaming Lips. It is a track-for-track tribute to the Beatles album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It was released on October 27, 2014, through Warner Bros. All proceeds from record sales will go to the Bella Foundation, an organization in Oklahoma City that helps provide veterinary care to needy pet owners.

As the Lips scored sudden mainstream success in the early '90s with a fluke MTV hit, their cover choices turned decidedly more esoteric, as the band used their modicum of celebrity to shine a light on known artists’ lesser-known work, reclaim new-wave novelties, or to promote then-unheralded underground peers. But the Lips and Fwends go to town on these songs with little regard for thematic resonance or big-picture atmosphere. In the spirit of the aforementioned 80s-era indie cover-song desecrations, these aren’t so much revisions as disembowelments that replace the guts of the originals with a tangle of short-circuiting exposed wires.

The Lips covered Pink Floyd's entire Dark Side of the Moon album in 2009 and followed it with similar homages to the classic debuts from King Crimson and the Stones Roses. But covering a Beatles record - much less Pepper's - requires another level of moxie entirely. Fortunately, Wayne Coyne and his bandmates have always operated on instinct, not fear. On an album-length cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Flaming Lips' playful streak gets undercut with moments of abrasiveness and aggression - and detours down strange side roads. Last year's pulverizing and strangely pretty The Terror was often punishingly uncompromising, but With A Little Help From My Fwends tackles its impossible task with a comparatively light touch.

The Flaming Lips and pals remake the Beatles Sgt Pepper’s – and it’s Miley Cyrus who provides the only real fun, writes Jon Dennis. The most mind-blowing moments come from Miley Cyrus, who sings Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and the middle section of A Day in the Life deadpan – and in doing so takes them to another dimension.
