Outlandos d'Amour is the debut album by English rock band The Police, released in November 1978 by A&M Records. Elevated by the success of its lead single, "Roxanne," Outlandos d'Amour peaked at No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart and at No. 23 in the United States. It has since been certified 3 platinum by the RIAA for sales of over three million units in the United States. The album spawned two additional hit singles: "Can't Stand Losing You" and "So Lonely.

Outlandos d'Amour (a loose French translation of Love’s Outlaws) is the debut album of iconic British rock band The Police. The album is considered to be one of the best debuts of all time and the beginning of a journey that would eventually turn The Police into the Biggest Band in the World. Outlandos d’Amour Q&A. The roots of Outlandos d'Amour were laid in early 1978 when The Police checked into Surrey Sound Studios to record a few tracks. Our first album was recorded on second-hand multitrack tape - at that time, we couldn't afford our own tape," said Sting. We were working in a home-made studio in Leatherhead belonging to Nigel Gray, a doctor whose hobby was recording.

Outlandos d'Amour is the debut album by The Police, released in 1978. The LP initially flopped, due to low exposure and an unfavourable reaction from the BBC to its first two singles, "Can't Stand Losing You" and "Roxanne" (about suicide and prostitution, respectively). As Sting describes: .We had publicity campaign with posters about how the BBC banned "Roxanne".

As it turns 40, The Police’s debut album, Outlandos D’Amour, boasts an enviable reputation. Widely regarded as one of new wave’s key records, it’s racked up multi-platinum sales since its release, and is rightly cited as the disc which set the band on the road to superstardom.
