About Bukky Leo. A young saxophonist who was discovered by Tony Allen in Lagos Nigeria and went on to stew in Nigeria's fertile afrobeat scene just as it was getting off the ground, Leo played with both Allen and Fela Kuti before striking out on his own and moving to London. The move proved to be a good one; Leo brought his distinctive style to the nascent acid jazz scene and, as one of Gilles Peterson's first artists on the Acid Jazz label, helped shape that genre's direction.
