Springsteen notes that he’s been asked about Trump a lot as he’s promoted his book. And, despite a reputation for political engagement, he’s evidently a little tired of it. In fact, he’s been relatively quiet this election. Brilliant Disguise 1987 Springsteen’s first marriage failed – but led to the brilliant, introspective album Tunnel of Love. This single seemed to be an autobiographical take on his relationship, with a devastating payoff: God have mercy on the man, Who doubts what he’s sure of. The Ghost of Tom Joad 1995 The lives of the dispossessed were the theme of the largely acoustic album The Ghost of Tom Joad. The title track seems to echo Born to Run when it claims the highway is alive tonight.

He isn't preaching to the choir for the first time in a long time; following Elvis Costello and Allen Toussaint, it is a decidedly non-partisan crowd. But Bruce and the Sessions players more than meet the challenge, laying the sun into the ground for a two-hour set that has the crowd eventually eating out of their hands, many with tears streaming down their faces. Springsteen talks about getting to town the previous day and heading down to the Lower Ninth: I saw some things I never thought I’d see in an American city

Bruce Springsteen as idol, hero and inspiration by Steve Wynn. It’s hard today to convey the radical and profound impact of Bruce Springsteen in the mid-’70s. In the years since, he’s become more of an icon, a Walking Statement and, through no fault of his own, a prototype of a caricature that has been embraced by lesser sax-driven, good-time party bands over the years. But in the mid-’70s it was almost a revelation to see a performer who was so low on pretence and so devoted and committed to the possibilities and magic of rock’n’roll. On record, and especially in concert, Springsteen broke.

Bruce Springsteen is finally preparing to release the solo album he’s kept under wraps for several years. He noted that while the new material has connections to the rest of his solo work, fans will find that it feels very different. He wrote the songs around the time he created 2012’s Wrecking Ball, but other work distracted him from finishing the album. I’ve just been caught up in other projects, Springsteen told Variety. It’s kind of waiting for its moment. Good music doesn’t go away.

Some feel he peaked in 1975 with Born to Run, while others prefer the stark sound of Nebraska and still others love the personal tone of Tunnel of Love.
