Echo and the Bunnymen are one of only a handful of older bands out there who haven't really lost any of their vitality, and these performances bristle with the enthusiasm and energy of a much younger band. When the guys dip into their post-reunion catalog, it often sounds a great deal more charged than those songs' studio counterparts. The two biggest highlights of the album both reach back to the band's 1979 debut, Crocodiles. The band rips and snorts its way through "All That Jazz" with both Sergeant and McCulloch tearing into their guitars while some hired heads bash out the rhythmic backing with abandon

Ian McCulloch and Will Sergeant shaped Echo & the Bunnymen's dreamy post-punk into something timeless. Their 1997 reincarnation sparked new life for the band, and McCulloch and Sergeant have maintained their strong appeal of passionate rock & roll. On a live setting, they're charming and their first proper live album, Live in Liverpool, proves that.

The Bunnymen are back with a new album and a live session for 6 Music. There are also 2 completely new tracks to accompany the album How Far? and the current single The Somnambulist. The band formed in Liverpool in the late 1970's and was a backdrop to student life for those in the 80's. Ian McCulloch is the lead singer and cultural icon of a generation.

Sergeant has played live with The Wild Swans already in Liverpool, and also features on the band's just-released album, The Coldest Winter For A Hundred Years, an album which possibly says more about Liverpool than any other recorded. This side of him only fully came out on the band's 2001 Flowers album, an reflective mid-life statement  . As for Echo and the Bunnymen, the band and the Cairns Strings were awesome, and deserve medals. The band's singer, figure-head and auto-didactic genius, alas, cut a tragic dash, however fascinatingly, horribly watchable he remained. Like the man said, bring on the new messiah.
