Waiting for the Roar is the third album by the British heavy metal band Fastway. It was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and released in 1985. Side one. In 1985, Clarke and King reformed Fastway with a new line-up. Recruiting Shane Carroll (second guitar), Paul Reid (bass), and Alan Connor (drums) from Dave King's first band, Stillwood, this line-up released Waiting for the Roar. The record took an album-oriented rock approach instead of the driving bluesy-metal of the previous albums. The success of the record was limited, and it disappointed many fans. The same year, Fastway was approached to make the soundtrack for the heavy metal horror film, Trick or Treat.

WAITING FOR THE ROAR is a slickly produced pop-metal album that bears little resemblance to the raucous bluesy hard rock of Fastway’s first two albums. Many hard rock & metal bands had fallen prey to glossy makeovers in the mid-80s as they hoped to cash in during an era when these genres were finally getting airplay. In Fastway’s case, this would be both a creative & commercial misstep that would do little to increase their fortunes. My own first impression upon hearing his album in 1986 was one of confusion and great disappointment. Aside from not liking it much, I didn’t even bother.
