Tommy and Quadrophenia Live is a 3-disc DVD box set that includes performances by The Who from their 1989 (the Tommy portion) and 1996-1997 tours (the Quadrophenia portion). Both sets present a heavily augmented backing band supporting Roger Daltrey (vocals), Pete Townshend (guitar, piano and vocals) and John Entwistle (bass guitars and vocals).

The Who's 2012–2013 tour was their third to feature the 1973 album Quadrophenia. Billed as "Quadrophenia and More", the band played Quadrophenia in its entirety, followed by a selection of their greatest hits. Before starting the tour, the group gave a special performance at the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Quadrophenia was originally released as a double album by Track Records in November 1973 (Track 2657 013). Released to coincide with The Who’s first UK and US tours for two years, it reached in both countries’ album charts. The first CD version (Polydor 831 072-2) was released in the early 1980s, followed by a remastered double CD in 1996 (Polydor 531 971-2). In the US it was released in October 1973 (MCA2 10004), followed by a CD (MCA MCAD 2-6895), a remastered gold disc (MFSL UDCD 2-550) and in 1996, a remixed and remastered version (MCA MCAD2-11463)

Released as a double-album in 1973, The Who’s rock opera QUADROPHENIA is a conceptual work set in the 1960s milieu of the Mod movement during which they began their career in west London. The central character of Jimmy is a disaffected youth who hates his parents and lowly job, but finds release from blue-collar drudgery with his fellow Mods, popping pills and riding motor-scooters to weekend concerts by bands like The Who. But the freedom he finds turns out to be illusory. The album title comes from the personalities of the four members of The Who, used to represent the four sides of Jimmy. In 1979 it was turned into a film, directed by Franc Roddam (and featuring a young Sting in a key role) and has been performed live by The Who, sometimes with guest performers. In 2012 The Who played the album in its entirety on tour.

The new re-issue of the Who's 'Quadrophenia' takes us back to mid 1973, when the Who were unofficially dubbed the worlds greatest live rock 'n' roll band and had several successful recordings under their belt including 'Tommy' and Who's Next. Come October and their next triumph, in which songwriter Pete Townshend introduced us to Jimmy, the tragic hero of the band's latest rock opera. Anymore' and 'Is It Me?' are songs that didn't make the album but give you more of an insight to the dark and depressive side of Jimmy's drug usage and the character Ace Face, respectively. The deluxe packaging is very well done, with the original book getting reproduced as two separate booklets full of photos, and images of the original master reel tape boxes shown beneath the disc trays.
