I'm a long time Joni fan and this album will offers a lot me and other long devotees for a glimpse of the very early Joni playing live in front of a small audience: her and her guitar. Hearing how the introduces songs and interacts with the crowd and plays around is a bit like being a time traveler. Like so many "early" albums the recording quality is pretty rough, but Joni still comes through for me and it's more like proof of its early origins. The quality doesn't matter to me.

Both Sides, Now" is written in F-sharp major. Mitchell used a guitar tuning of E–B–E–G♯–B–E with a capo at the second fret

In 1966, Joni Mitchell was two years away from recording her first album, and she was just another contemporary folksinger looking for her break when she was booked to play the Second Fret, then Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's premiere folk venue. While Mitchell wasn't yet a star, she had already written a handful of great songs that would go on to become classics (including "Both Sides Now," "The Circle Game," "Song to a Seagull," and "Urge for Going") and knew how to deliver them with the skill and confidence of a master performer. For fans curious about Joni Mitchell's early days as a musician, Live at the Second Fret 1966 reveals the talent was clearly there long before she was embraced by the mass audience. TRACKLIST 1.
