Northern Star is the debut solo album released by English singer and songwriter Melanie C (Melanie Chisholm), released on 18 October 1999, by Virgin Records. Conceived during the hiatus of her then-group, the Spice Girls, in 1999, it was the second solo album to be released by a member of the band, following Geri Halliwell's Schizophonic (1999).

The Spice Girls pose in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in Sept. 20 years ago, Mel B became the first Spice girl to release a solo single outside of the group. After seismically changing the face of pop music as a quintet in the late '90s, the Spice Girls were always going to struggle to make anywhere near the same impact as solo artists.
