Mason Douglas Williams (born August 24, 1938) is an American classical guitarist, composer, writer, comedian, and poet, best known for his 1968 instrumental "Classical Gas" and for his work as a comedy writer on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, and Saturday Night Live. Williams was born in Abilene, Texas, the son of Jackson Eugene (a tile setter) and Kathlyn (née Nations) Williams.

If you enjoy Mason Williams' quirky music, you'll like this one. It's impossible to categorize, except as an exploration through the lands of Mason's musical creativity  . Mason Williams is quite probably one of the most under-appreciated artists of this or any age. What he can do with music or words is totally remarkable. Loved the album and have played it over and over - as I will, hopefully, for many years to come. If you haven't heard him, I feel sorry for you, because he is in a class by himself.

The resulting product, The Mason Williams Ear Show, emerged not as a sequel but an elaborate companion piece with even more quirkiness, including a stunning remake of "Baroque-a-Nova," a track from the previous disc allegedly written for Simon & Garfunkel to perform on The Smothers Brothers. Here "Baroque-a-Nova" is arranged again by the great Al Capps, the jingle sounding instrumental, feeling like a "Classical Gas" redux (the earlier version having backing vocals, this equally excellent rendition simply an instrumental)
