Eddie and his close companion Oliver Sain were just two of the many blues and jazz horn players to come from Coleman High School. They joined other formally trained musicians in Greenville’s sophisticated, urban jump-blues bands, which featured four- and five-man horn sections. Crossroads is a 1986 American coming-of-age musical drama film inspired by the legend of blues musician Robert Johnson. Starring Ralph Macchio, Joe Seneca and Jami Gertz, the film was written by John Fusco and directed by Walter Hill and features an original score featuring Ry Cooder and Steve Vai on the soundtrack's guitar, and harmonica by Sonny Terry. Vai also appears in the film as the devil's guitar player in the climactic guitar duel.

Saxophonist Eddie Shaw, a Mississippi Delta native who played with Howlin’ Wolf and then carried on his legacy by leading the Wolf Gang, died this past Tuesday in Chicago. Shaw, who was 80, was the most prominent saxophonist on an instrument that was once central to the blues, and was a frequent visitor to Mississippi in recent decades  .
