The Two of Us is the debut album by the R&B duo Yarbrough & Peoples, released in 1980 on Mercury Records. It was produced by LA based producer Lonnie Simmons, who would go on to form Total Experience Records the following year, and veteran songwriter Jonah Ellis. The Two of Us contained the couple's biggest hit, "Don't Stop the Music", which went to on the R&B charts, on the dance charts, and on the pop charts. The album peaked at on the R&B Charts and on the pop charts.
Centered around dance lyrics, Alisa Peoples pushes the verse while Calvin Yarbrough sounds off the chorus with the help of an electronic vocalizer supported by some animated backing vocals.
Yarbrough & Peoples - The Two Of Us (1980) - Mercury Records. Alex's album was released in March 85 and the recording of Innocent took place sometime in 1984, I can't find an exact date for the Prime Time album other than 1985 so who knows what the story is here? A crazy crazy coincidence? It's highly doubtful listening to both side by side.
From Dallas, Texas, er Cavin Yarbrough and Alisa Peoples met as kids while working the same piano teacher. As adults they formed a musical partnership and through The Gap Band met and signed with Los Angeles based music entrepreneur Lonnie Simmons' Total Experience Productions. In 1980 Mercury released their debut album, "The Two Of Us", featuring "Don't Stop The Music".

Yarbrough & Peoples. Two Of Us. 4:12. I have a couple of their albums on vinyl from when they were released, but I still found this album enjoyable because it contains all of their hits on one CD. The mastering is great too, not screechy or tinny sounding.
Their debut album The Two of Us went gold, peaking at number 16 on Billboard's album charts. The follow-up, The Third Degree, peaked at number 74 R&B, summer 1981. The next LP, Heartbeats, was issued on Total Experience as part of a distribution deal producer Simmons had with Polygram in spring 1982. The LP's title track climbed to number 20 R&B in summer 1984. Guilty was the name of Yarbrough & Peoples' best album, issued in late 1985. The title track "Guilty" - not to be confused with the Alexander O'Neal hit - went to number two R&B around the time of the LP's release. The track was written and produced by Jimmy Hamilton and Maurice Hayes of the band Prime Time, who had a hit on Total Experience with "I Owe It to Myself," number 21 R&B, fall 1984.
