Released May 16, 1966. Pet Sounds Tracklist. 1. Wouldn't It Be Nice Lyrics. Recorded and released in 1966, not long after the sunny, textural experiments of California Girls, Pet Sounds is widely regarded as the first concept album in the rock genre. The album went on to be extremely influential in the art rock and baroque pop movements and is praised as one of the greatest rock albums ever made. The album even inspired The Beatles to create the critically lauded Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

The best Beach Boys album, and one of the best of the 1960s. The group here reached a whole new level in terms of both composition and production, layering tracks upon tracks of vocals and instruments to create a richly symphonic sound. Conventional keyboards and guitars were combined with exotic touches of orchestrated strings, bicycle bells, buzzing organs, harpsichords, flutes, Theremin, Hawaiian-sounding string instruments, Coca-Cola cans, barking dogs, and more. Wouldn't It Be Nice," "God Only Knows," "Caroline No," and "Sloop John B" (the last of which wasn't originally intended to go on the album) are the well-known hits, but equally worthy are such cuts as "You Still Believe in Me," "Don't Talk," "I Know There's an Answer," and "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times.

Brian Wilson's 1997 remix of Pet Sounds let's US finally hear this immortal album in stereo. If you need some pointy-headed pundit to sell you on the merits of Pet Sounds, your money might be better spent on an ear specialist. Brian Wilson's gift to 20th-century music elevated this pop album into a beguiling musical and emotional cogency that still operates outside pop culture's fickle space-time continuum-and limited critical lexicon. Many think that the stereo version of "Pet Sounds" is inferior to the mono version. To me, the stereo version is also a revelation. I've had the stereo and mono versions on CD for several years now and both are amazing.

Pet Sounds is the eleventh studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released on May 16, 1966. It initially met with a lukewarm critical and commercial response in the United States, peaking at number 10 in the Billboard 200, a significantly lower placement than the band's preceding albums.

The story of Pet Sounds is one of heartbreak, joy, madness, rock 'n' roll, the past, the future, the beginning of the end of the Beach Boys and a whole lot more. It's the perfect mid-'60s album in ways that go deeper than the music – which is among the most gorgeous and influential ever made – itself. Rubber Soul opened the door to a new period; Pet Sounds was the album that made itself at home and never really left once it got inside.

The Beach Boys are an American rock band formed in Hawthorne, California, in 1961. The group's original lineup consisted of brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine.

Talk about The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

Winawel
I've got this release and just realized that it's supposed to have a label. My label on both sides of the record is just black.
invincible
Is it just my copy or does this press sound like complete ass?
August
Compared to the recent 2017 Reissue, this indeed, sounds like ass.
Malhala
Hmmm. I think I see what you guys mean, actually. I gotta get a different version to play and see for myself. I felt like the low to low mid tones were kinda muddy myself, as well as the highs being very tinny when listening earlier today.
Fonceiah
Not just you; mine is terrible / scratchy / noisy. It made me panic about my system. Grrrr.
Lailace
I was disappointed by what I can only describe as a tinny sound. No richness; my 60s albums blow this sound away. Would not recommend this version.
Utchanat
I think my 74 Reprise mono RE sounds better than this one. This one is a bit muddy.
Arakus
Haven't had any issues with mine. Are you playing it on mono mode?
