It is the rearranged soundtrack to an 80-minute video production of the same title made in 1984. Since recording Discreet Music in 1975, Eno had shown a strong interest in creating music that can influence the atmosphere of the space in which it is played, rather than be focused on directly.

Talk about Brian Eno - Thursday Afternoon

Can anyone comment on the sound quality of this DSD remaster? The original is less than stellar being a very early CD release and would like to upgrade.
Painshade
If this was mastered in DSD - why did they not release a SACD?

Get this shit on wax already Bri’Guy, The sceno-need-the-Eno. Though to be fair this came out just as everyone assumed it would from that point beard always or forever be on compact disc which it was, for a while at least, but look at us now. We all just wish it had an initial release so we could have a first pressing from the year it was released and not a reissue/pressing, but Of course we’d still be quite happily satisfied either way! This is one of the best ambient pieces of all time, it can be so many different things on so many different listenings for me, whether I’m meditating or tripping down memory lane (~);} or just having it on the background during a serene drive or evening or outing or what have you. So yeah, I would agree that this deserves a vinyl release ASAP.
lifestyle
patiently awaiting a vinyl release...
Jazu
Exactly. CD is the whole point of this and vice-versa.
Qutalan
Given that the piece was written specifically for release on CD, I wouldn't hold your breath.
EROROHALO
Not one vinyl version....oh well!
Bloodfire
You seem to have missed the whole point of the release. It was written for CD.
Amis
one of his greatest and finest albums released, the silence of music in great movement !

My favorite tracks are the first and the last one. Nothing compares or is similar to this masterpiece, except Brian Eno himself. Even with all the money of this world, I doubt Mr. Eno could recreate an universe of sounds like 'Thursday Afternoon' today. Thanks Brian.

Well, I have to adjust myself - the latest album by Eno 'Lux', continues thirty years (!) later with another tranquility of mind. This is not very common by artists, who try to adapt popular mainstream to remain 'fashionable'. And this is, quod erat demonstrandum, for 'geniuses by birth' not necessary.

this music will stun you in all its stillness. the soft ring of each key stroke will gently tap your mind before you zone out ensuring you're still listening. this music is a soundtrack to a lazy daydream on a thursday afternoon.

This release was one of the first pieces of music specifically written to take advantage of a 'magic' new audio format, the compact disc! That basic premise doesn't sound too promising but Eno delivers the listener a quiet, plangent, softly layered soundscape that is the aural equivalent of watching distant clouds form and dissipate. There is attention to sonic detail that rewards the listener who fails to 'nod off' or 'switch off'. This is classic ambient, rarely imitated and quite unique. The nearest thing I can think of like this is Autechre & Hafler Trio's 'æo³ & ³hæ'. Two decades separate these releases and although the base sound palate is different there is a 'drawing in' effect that is similar and satisfyingly attractive.

Possibly, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. From the genius mind of Brian Eno evolves a random computer driven soundscape which evokes calm and serenity.
Stonewing
One of the first releases to take advantage of the then still new wacky world of compact digital media both in length and use of silence or quiet. One that'll stick around for years.
