Era Extraña is the second studio album by American electronic music band Neon Indian, released on September 7, 2011 by Static Tongues and Mom + Pop Music. It was recorded between the winter of 2010 and 2011 during frontman Alan Palomo's visit to Finland. Containing influences and elements of psychedelic pop, shoegaze and new wave, the album has the same summery sound as the band's debut studio album, Psychic Chasms, but with a darker and more serious tone.

Heart: Attack -the minute-long intro of Neon Indian's 2011 album Era Extraña-instantly brings to mind the ‘80s-based, synth-heavy psychedelia of previous Neon Indian albums (2009’s Psychic Chasms and its 2010 follow-up, Mind CTRL: Psychic Chasms Possessed). But the next song, Polish Girl, is a sexy departure that has more in common with the cosmic disco of Air, Phoenix, or Vega (the other electro-tinged project fronted by Neon Indian’s Alan Polomo).

Neon Indian's new album, Era Extraña, follows 2009's breakthrough debut Psychic Chasms. Recorded in Helsinki and mixed by Dave Fridmann, the record builds on the charm of its predecessor by adding new musical colors and depth to Palomo's swirling, computerized pop songs. Many of the new tracks are anchored in '80s synth-pop and new wave, from Depeche Mode and Thompson Twins to Joy Divison and even Genesis. In fact, "Halogen (I Could Be a Shadow)" would segue nicely into "Turn It on Again. The added musical depth on Era Extraña prevents it from sounding.
