Kranky is an American independent record label in Chicago, Illinois. It houses predominantly experimental music artists, often branching into or inspired by ambient, rock, electronic or psychedelic music. Their first release was Labradford's 1993 debut album Prazision. Adams left the label in 2006, after which Leoschke continued running it, with the help of Brian Foote of Kranky band Nudge.

Loscil will release an album called Equivalents in August via Kranky. It's the 12th solo album from the Vancouver ambient composer, who's been releasing with Kranky since 2001. His method here was inspired by the early 20th-century photographs of Alfred Stieglitz, who was known for "abstracting clouds into miasmic, painterly canvases of smoke and shadowplay," the label says. The title is a reference to Stieglitz's notion that his photographs were equivalent to his state of mind. Read our label of the month feature from last year on Kranky

Kranky has announced that it will release a new album from ambient producer Earthen Sea in June. Titled Grass And Trees, the album is preceded by lead track 'Existing Closer Or Deeper In Space', which opens the album and can be heard above. Grass And Trees is Earthen Sea's - real name Jacob Long - second album for Kranky. He describes the process of working on the album as one of "simplifying things as much as possible," taking in field recordings and "sounds that could be played by hand but weren't.

The Canadian artist returns to Kranky for his 9th studio album. Tim Hecker will release his new album Konoyo on September 28 via Kranky. The announcement follows the reissue of remastered versions of Hecker’s first two albums, Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again and Radio Amor, also on Kranky. Taking cues from gagaku, a form of Japanese classical music performed at the Imperial Court, the project is the product of several visits to Japan where Hecker collaborated with members of the gagaku ensemble Tokyo Gakuso, recording in a temple on the outskirts of Tokyo.
