Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt is the debut solo album by John Frusciante, released on November 22, 1994, on American Recordings. Frusciante released the album after encouragement from several friends, who told him that there was "no good music around anymore.

He is quoted as saying that he released Smile from the Streets You Hold for drug money. Niandra Lades was eventually re-issued and in the early 2000s, Frusciante stated he will one day re-release Smile from the Streets You Hold, although this has yet to happen as of 2017.

Nom du groupe John Frusciante. Nom de l'album Smile from the Streets You Hold. Date de parution Août 1997. Labels Birdman Records. 1. Enter a Uh. 2. The Other. 4. A Fall Thru the Ground. 5. Poppy Man. 6. I May Again Know John.

Difficulty: intermediate. This version of the song is pretty much a hybrid of a live version and the recording from his album. F C A It's been so long. F C A Since I've felt the heat of the sun on my palm, A You're the one who knows me best. A C F Would you please put yourself to the test. F C A You're a smiiiiiile from the streets. F C A You hold my heart in my hands while I'm beat. A A Oh, you're always on the decline.

It’s a testament to the talents of the man that in those drug-riddled times, the barely coherent Frusciante could spawn an album that wasn’t completely horrible. Hell, it’s actually pretty good. Smile From the Streets You Hold is littered with one to two minute tracks, and, while short, most can hold their own against longer tracks, with Frusciante just doing more with less. Life’s A Bath is an extremely beautiful acoustic ballad, Poppy Man proves that, despite being hopelessly drugged up, Frusciante is still an extremely accomplished guitarist, and can prove it at will.

Those who felt that Niandra Lades demonstrated most of all that John Frusciante seemed to be going over the edge likely thought their suspicions confirmed when Smile From the Streets You Hold quietly appeared on the Birdman label in 1997. However, it's not so much an album as it is a collection of tracks from all over the place, though absolutely nothing about the packaging or liner notes indicates that. At least one cut, the odd semi-goth "A Fall Through the Ground," was recorded in 1988, while others were finished the year of the record's release.
