The Empyrean is the eighth solo album by John Frusciante, released worldwide on January 20, 2009 through Record Collection. Frusciante did not plan on a following tour, as he instead wanted to focus on writing and recording. The Empyrean peaked at number 151 on the US Billboard 200 as well as number seven on the Top Heatseekers. On release it made number 105 on the UK Albums Chart.

John Frusciante’s eighth solo album, The Empyrean, is largely viewed as containing some of his best solo work. Released on January 20, 2009, the album marks the end of Frusciante’s analog self-production, and rock-influenced approach to composing. The Empyrean was recorded intermittently between December 2006 and March 2008, and as a concept album, reflects a single narrative both musically and lyrically. Derived from Medieval Latin, the Empyrean (empyreus) is the highest part of heaven, once believed to be the realm of pure fire

Double disk LP with sticker on cover (10 year anniversary Repress) Recut by John Frusciante and Bernie Grundman from the original analog tapes. This double disc LP includes a download card of the album plus bonus tracks in hi-resolution. Código de Barras e Outros Identificadores.

John Frusciante is an amazing artist, a unique song-writer, and a remarkable guitarist (so expectations were high when I purchased this album). Initially, after listening to this album once (from track 1 to track 10), my thought was, "Great, John's gone soft. Where's the hard rock? Why do rock 'n' rollers go soft?" After I finished listening to the album, I was disappointed because I was expecting something heavier. This piece of music, as John might say, is a representation of the empyrean, the highest heaven. Therefore, this music is meant to sound heavenly (not heavy or rock 'n' rolly). I was expecting a rock & roll experience, but John delivered a heavenly experience. John: thank you for taking us to the empyrean with your guitar; thank you for taking us to a place where rock music almost never dares to ascend.

The Empyrean album chords.

The Empyrean is the tenth solo album by John Frusciante, released worldwide on January 20, 2009 through Record Collection. Frusciante does not plan on a following tour, as he instead wants to focus on writing and recording.

Talk about John Frusciante - The Empyrean

Cozius
Blows the previous pressing out of the water, great sounding record!
Lightbinder
This is one of the worst quality records I have ever bought. It is noisy, it skips and it just doesn't sound good. I might have been unlucky, but my pressing is pretty poor. I'm glad I also have this album on CD. As for the music, the first three tracks are absolutely incredible, the rest of the album is at best average and at worst bad. It's not my favourite of his records.
Dorizius
I love when a good repress comes along and fucks over all the greedy scalpers
Rarranere
Sucks to whoever paid $90 for this. Ooof, that hurts.
Yozshujinn
I am so pleased with this! As mentioned in another comment this is like rediscovering the album! John and Bernie really care and it shines through on this album.
Ghordana
My copy is a bit off centre especially on Side 1..
olgasmile
This version is far superior compared to the 2012 repress. That version sounds very cold and digital with lots of clipping. This version sounds like i'm actually hearing the album for the first time. The sound staging and dynamics on this pressing are simply incredible.
Mejora
Does anybody know when it comes out in Europe!? Thanks !!
Marinara
it was possible to preorder @hhv.de, which is already sold out obviously. They responded to my email saying they don't know if they will get a restock after release :(.
Yozshubei
guess i'll just have to wait for the 20th anniversary ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Quynaus
Still gettable from John's own site so who cares when it comes out in Europe? The 2012 reissue was going for $200 like the original as soon as it sold out so don't leave it any longer if you want/need this.
Anardred
Anyone got his pre-order copy yet? How are the bonus tracks? Pretty excited.
MeGa_NunC
For those wondering/asking, the initials BG are written in the deadwax, so this was indeed cut by Bernie Grundman as it was advertised.
Nalmetus
Wow, thats really great news! Kind of unexpected but happy to hear that!
Tekasa
Can someone post the deadwax/matrix so that we can figure out who cut this record? Cheers...
Bloodray
What does "recut" mean in this context? Is this LP any different in Sound than the original one?
Sagda
The new version of the album sounds fuggn AMAZING! If you are still in doubt , I say just go for it. Buy a copy. It is GREAT.
Dordred
Nonsense. You obviously don't know what you're talking about but "my best guess" blah blah blah. Do you also guess that John himself would be personally involved in the process if it were coming off the production line like a CD?
Kegal
Every time you cut a lacquer, you are essentially doing a new ‘remaster’ and, unless it is done by the same mastering engineer using the same EQ and mastering chain, it will sound different.
Munigrinn
The sticker actually only says "Cut", not 'recut'. So my guess is whoever wrote this here meant it in the sense of 'because this is a repress it's a recut'? That's my best guess. In whole, it says "Cut from the Original Analog Tapes", so in my opinion, it shouldn't sound differen't.
Froststalker
Yes it was recut by Bernie Grundman and John from the original analog master tape. It sounds different from he original in my opinion.
Bundis
The time is nigh. Preorders up on multiple sites for a supposed reissue in March. https://www.merchbar.com/dance-electronic-edm/john-frusciante/john-frusciante-empyrean-vinyl-record
Ochach
for anyone in the UK I just pre-ordered this reissue on ebay for £29 - there was only one copy left with the seller i bought from though.
Bukus
Try Grooves.land. Usually free shipping when spending over like $23
Authis
Saw that and smashed the button so hard. Then i saw they want twice the price of the record for shipping it to Sweden and then customs fees att that :(
Nalmergas
I wonder why they’re just doing Empyrean? I’m glad they are though as it’s probably my favourite....
CrazyDemon
Try grooves.land. I tried Juno, Norman, Resident and couldn't find it, unfortunately. Grooves has it!
grand star
I preordered the lp from Barnes and Noble so I’d say it’s legit.
Lanadrta
Any news on this being legit? I've seen someone selling pre-orders on ebay in the UK. Where else have you seen it? Any news appreciated as I can't find a thing online. Cheers
Aver
This is one of his best and maybe one of the best all around albums ever produced. True art through music..
