Disappears began recording their debut studio album and signed to Touch & Go, appearing at the label's showcase at 2009's South by Southwest festival, and also playing dates with Tortoise, Deerhunter, and Times New Viking. The band released 100 CD-Rs of Live Over the Rainbo - a live album from the Deerhunter/Times New Viking tour - which was eventually distributed by Plus Tapes and Rococo Records later in 2009.

On the album Facing Future (1993), Israel Kamakawiwo'ole included "Over the Rainbow" in a ukulele medley with "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong. Israel called the recording studio at 3 am. After their second album Guider was released in 2011, Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth joined the band and the band went on tour through the US and Europe. Disappears have been on hiatus as of the fall of 2016, with Damon Carruesco wanting to focus on his art and design work as well as solo musical project Tüth. Guider, 2011, Kranky. Disappears is a rock band from Chicago formed in 2008. The band plays a mixture of shoegaze, krautrock and garage rock. After their second album Guider was released in 2011, Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth joined the band and the band went on tour through the US and Europe. Shelley left the group in 2012, citing touring scheduling conflicts.
