Home Pop/Rock Transfixiation. A Place to Bury Strangers. Release Date: Feb 17, 2015 Record label: Dead Oceans Records Genre(s): Pop/Rock, Alternative/Indie Rock. 64 Music Critic Score How the Music Critic Score works. A Place to Bury Strangers revels in discomfort on Transfixiation. The NYCers fourth LP pulls from the trio's usual obsessions – shoegaze, noise rock, 120 Minutes circa 1988 – with zero interest in making things easy. What We Don't See" puts a sing-along melody over a simple rhythm pulse, but intertwines it with seasick guitar.

Transfixiation marks the first A Place to Bury Strangers album from the current lineup of Lunadon, drummer Robi Gonzalez, who joined the band in 2012, and longtime guitarist and vocalist Oliver Ackermann. But that band unity was sorely tested during the recording of Transfixiation. Transfixiation doesn't truly go apeshit, though, until its finale. I Will Die" is a relentless, scabrous jam session-turned closing track so intense that it should put to bed any thought that A Place to Bury Strangers will be tidying up its sound any time soon. Neat and tidy and clean is not what we're about," proclaimed the bassist. We're the antithesis of that.
Album · 2015 · 11 Songs. This Brooklyn-based trio’s fourth album, Transfixiation, is both an aggressive assault on the senses on its leanest, meanest tracks ( I’m So Clean, Fill the Void ) and an eerily beautiful flex of the band’s unique musical existential muscle ( Lower Zone ). Frontman Oliver Ackermann emerges as a spiritual descendent of Ian Curtis’ uneasy sense, and bassist Dion Lunadon carries the weight of the band’s melodies in his fluid, often-percussive lines. New drummer Robi Gonzalez holds things together by keeping the songs moving
