Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton was Eric Clapton's first fully realized album as a blues guitarist - more than that, it was a seminal blues album of the 1960s, perhaps the best British blues album ever cut, and the best LP ever recorded by John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. Standing midway between Clapton's stint with the Yardbirds and the formation of Cream, this album featured the new guitar hero on a series of stripped-down blues standards, Mayall pieces, and one Mayall/Clapton composition, all of which had him stretching out in the idiom for the first time in the studio
What more can be said of Eric Clapton, but John Mayall? More, much more needs to be said. He is a wonderful Blues musician whose influence can still be felt today. I'll admit that at fifteen, when this LP came out, I was too young to appreciate this album - I had no frame of reference for this music, but now that I've become more familiar with serious Blues and early Rock and Roll, this album should not be excluded from your collection. If you are a fan of R&B, blues or rock and have never heard this album, then prepare to have your mind blown. The original 1966 Blues Breakers: Eric Clapton just prior to forming "Cream", anchored by the great John Mayall, usually referred to as "The Father of British Blues". With John McVie on bass (who moved on to become the "Mac" of Fleetwood Mac) and Hughie Flint on drums, you have the perfect tight, energy-filled R&B line-up from the mid-sixties.

John Mayall and Eric Clapton were both relatively well known when they joined up for an album on July 22, 1966. But Blues Breakers With Eric Clapton took both artists' careers to new levels and set them on the paths to their respective futures. Clapton was fresh from the Yardbirds, the blues band he quit in disgust after they reached the Top 10 with the pop song "For Your Love" in 1965
