At the River" is a song by British duo Groove Armada. It was released as a single in 1997 on 7" vinyl, limited to 500 copies. The song appeared on the duo's debut album Northern Star and again on their second album, Vertigo, released in April 1999. The song was written and produced whilst the duo were staying in a cottage in Ambleside in the Lake District, writing material for their first album.

It was the chill-out classic that beguiled the 90s – and it all started in a 50p bargain bin in Ambleside. Tom Findlay, songwriter, producer. After we left university we DJ-ed together for a little club night in London, called Captain Sensual at the Helm of the Groove Armada.

The song was later added to the track listing of the duo's second album, Vertigo. Re-released in July 1999, it peaked at in the UK Singles Chart. The song was used in an advert for UK clothing and food retail chain Marks & Spencer's as part of their Summer 2006 campaign. Groove Armada's only real piece of music. I can't say i like Groove Armada, but this song is an exception. Wonderful arranged, sound's a bit strange and experimental at first, but it grows on you and i'm sure you will appreciate it. Not a surprise this has become a chillout classic. The vocals are samples from Patti Page's old classic "Old Cape Cod". About the classical rhythms i'm not sure, but it reminds me about Louie Armstrong's Wonderful World and the main theme from the movie 'Cocoon'. Maybe they sampled it, anyway it sounds perfect!
