Produced by Alan Hawkshaw. This song is an instrumental cover of Tramp by Otis Redding and Carla Thomas. It is one of the most heavily used samples in hip hop history, with WhoSampled citing over 600 uses (as of December 2017). The Champ" Track Info. Written By Harry Palmer.

I liked this sample in Mantronix's "Fresh is the Word", but that was a long time ago. I can't listen to the entire "Champ" song because the sound of the organ makes me ill. Highly oversampled material here. Let the sample rest in peace.

Talk about The Mohawks - The Champ

Goldendragon
This reissue had the top sound . Reissue in the 80's or 90's? I buy it in the 90's.Violet label Silver printed. 180 hrs.
Steelrunner
not a bad remaster of the classic album- some tracks could of been levelled properly and the addition of the "extended" versions of two of the tracks (basically two poor looped versions of the originals) are pointless and could've easily been replaced with perhaps the classic reggae version of the champ or one of the other records, but this is a solid record. good melodies, ideal drums for sampling and some fantastic hammond organ playing! i suggest getting the Keith Mansfield/Alan Hawkshaw album "The Big Beat" on Hawkshaw's home label KPM records after purchasing this for more of the similar style. 3/5
