Gone Is Gone is an American rock group formed in 2016. The band consists of Troy Sanders, the singer and bass player from Mastodon, Troy Van Leeuwen, one of the guitarists for Queens of the Stone Age, Tony Hajjar, the drummer for At the Drive-In, and Mike Zarin, a t, composer and founder of Sencit Music who appeared with Van Leeuwen on Sweethead's Descent to the Surface

If you're not familiar with Gone Is Gone, they're a supergroup comprised of members of Mastodon (Troy Sanders), Queens of the Stone Age (Troy Van Leeuwen), At the Drive-In (Tony Hajjar) and t and composer Mike Zarin. In support of their debut album, Echolocation, we were fortunate enough to have everyone, save for Hajjar, swing by our studio to dive deeper into the record. After working scoring music for film trailers, Hajjar and Zarin decided to take this ethos and apply to it a more standard song approach.

A piece that will make anyone want to get up and move, Ornament is funky and completely memorable. Highlighting groovy instrumentals, this track is a total hit from start to finish, grasping and hooking any listener. The album is extremely diverse and certainly will peak listener’s interest with such ability to keep the music fresh. Gone Is Gone, the rock supergroup featuring members of Mastodon, Queens of the Stone Age, and At the Drive-In, have officially announced their debut full-length album. It’s titled Echolocation, and it’s out January 6 via Rise/Black Dune. Check out the full tracklist and cover artwork below. The gruff bass tone featured prominently on that song is certainly a recurring element throughout the album, as is Van Leeuwen‘s rich atmospheric playing. Sanders also delivers a fairly passionate vocal performance, but mostly sticks to his already established skill set when it comes to range. Hajjar‘s busy drumming style is surprisingly adaptive, though he does tend to let loose on the cymbals a bit more than you might expect. Meanwhile, Zarin‘s subtle keys/programming adds entrancing sonic layering to the mix.

Gone is Gone are an upcoming rock band hailing out of Hollywood, recently signed to Rise Records. I had never heard of this band or their work until coming across their debut album Echolocation, which made it all the more surprising to find they had signed to Rise Records. Gone is Gone is unlike any band on the label; not just label veterans like Crown the Empire and Of Mice & Men, but also more recent signees like Chelsea Grin and The Devil Wears Prada. Rise Records isn't the type of label to restrict themselves, but having this group on the roster feels uncomfortably out of place.
