Funny Girl (Original Broadway Cast Recording) is the original Broadway cast recording of the musical Funny Girl, loosely based on the life of Fanny Brice: the show opened on March 26, 1964 at the Winter Garden Theater, starring Barbra Streisand. It is considered a Streisand's album since she performed 12 out of its 17 tracks.
Sydney Chaplin (13) - Nick Arnstein, John Lankston (5) - Ziegfeld Tenor, Kay Medford (9) - Mrs. Brice, Danny Meehan (10) - Eddie Ryan, Jean Stapleton (7) - Mrs. Strakosh, Barbra Streisand (139) - Fanny Brice.
This is a beautiful October 1964 playbill from the Original Broadway production of the JULE STYNE and BOB MERRILL musical comedy hit "FUNNY GIRL" which played the Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. The production opened March 26th, 1964 and ran for 1348 performances. The musical marked the first starring role for BARBRA STREISAND as "Fanny Brice" and also starred SYDNEY CHAPLIN as "Nick Arnstein". Featured in the cast were KAY MEDFORD, LEE ALLEN, JEAN STAPLETON, ALAN MANSON, JOSEPH MACAULAY, BUZZ MILLER, GEORGE REEDER and ROYCE WALLACE.
Sydney Chaplin, as Brice's husband, the gambler Nick Arnstein, was less impressive, with a very limited vocal range that sounded even more inadequate than usual against Streisand's remarkable instrument. Quickly recorded, the album was relatively underproduced for a Streisand recording, but it captured a fresh performance she could not recreate later. 1 Overture Original Broadway Cast 4:2. 2 If a Girl Isn't Pretty Kay Medford 2:14. 3 I'm the Greatest Star Barbra Streisand 3:59.
FUNNY GIRL: Original Broadway Cast was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame in 2004. The GRAMMY Hall Of Fame Award was established by The Recording Academy's National Trustees in 1973 to honor recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. CD Versions of ‘Funny Girl’. Ray Stark was an agent about to become a very powerful agent, destined for even greater power and wealth as a successful producer and industry power- broker. Stark saw a movie in his mother-in-law's life. While Brice was still alive, he had Ben Hecht draft a screenplay. But before the show went out of town, she cut a version of PEOPLE for her label. The industry norm for such records was then three minutes because radio stations resisted playing anything longer.
