Wagner - Jun Märkl, MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, ‎– Symphony In C Major, Symphony In E Major (fragments). Label: Naxos ‎– . 73413. Symphony In E Major, WWV 35. Arranged By – Felix Mottl.

Digital Booklet: Wagner: Symphony in C Major. With the exception of the three marches (composed 1864-1876), this is early Wagner. Jun Märkl, with the Leipzig Radio Symphony, has to date recorded six Wagner rarities on two CDs for the budget label Naxos, including two world premieres (Concert Overtures WWV 20 & 27). Performance and sound are outstanding. I hope Märkl records the remaining items (maybe even performing versions of the two unrecorded fragments), but I have no inside information.

The MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra (in German simply the MDR Sinfonieorchester) is a German radio orchestra based in Leipzig. It is the radio orchestra of Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, the public broadcaster for the German states of Thuringia, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. It is one of the oldest Radio orchestras in the world and the oldest in Germany. It was founded in Leipzig, Germany in 1923 (9 months earlier than the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra)

The fragmentary Symphony in E major, of which there are only two movements (later orchestrated by conductor Felix Mottl, who also orchestrated Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder), and the four-movement Symphony in C major were composed between 1832 and 1834, around the same time Wagner had completed his first opera, Die Feen

Although he is best known for his innovative operas and iconic music dramas, Richard Wagner maintained a keen interest in symphonic composition throughout his career. Written in his late teens and early twenties, these two symphonies stand as a tribute to Wagner’s passion for his great idol Beethoven
