Orchestra – Berliner Philharmoniker. Producer – Elsa Schiller. Recording Supervisor – Otto Gerdes. Recorded at e, Berlin on Dec. 1961 (1), Dec. 1961-Jan. Beethoven : Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan - The 9 Symphonies ‎(Box + 5xCD, RE). Deutsche Grammophon.

But for a first-rate conductor with a first-rate orchestra on a full-price label, this 1984 cycle of the Beethoven symphonies by Herbert von Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic on Deutsche Grammophon is arguably the worst ever recorded. That Karajan was a first-rate conductor who made many great recordings is inarguable. That his 1963 cycle of the Beethoven symphonies with the Berlin Philharmonic on DG is among the two or three greatest is debatable.

The Legendary 1963 Karajan Beethoven Symphonies ON ONE DISC. 1 Blu-Ray Audio for true 24-Bit/96kHz. Karajan recorded the Complete Symphonies of Beethoven no fewer than 4 times for DG, but this first 1963 recording was financially the most daring, artistically the most radical, and commercially the most successful. By 1973 nearly one million sets had been sold. 50 years on from its original launch, the set remains the best-selling Beethoven cycle of all time.

It is the second of four cycles of Beethoven's nine symphonies that von Karajan conducted, and the first of three for the German record label Deutsche Grammophon. The complete set was first released in 1962 in Europe, and as a result the cycle of symphonies is not generally known as the 1963 cycle

Other albums by Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan. Beethoven: Symphonien Nr. 3 "Eroica" & 4. Offenbach: Overtures. Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6 'Pathétique'. Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan 8/26/2008.
