Katatonia - Brave Murder Day flac album

Brave Murder Day is Katatonia's second full-length album, released in 1996 by Avantgarde Music. This album created a new guitar position with Fredrik Norrman's input, and features harsh vocals by Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth. It is also the last Katatonia LP to feature any death growls and other death metal elements.

Consistent and committed to its gloomy theme, this 1997 Century Media offering represents the metallic high-water mark from an ever-evolving group.

Brave Murder Day can best be described as the middle ground between the intense Death/Doom of Dance of December Souls and the suicidal feelings of Discouraged Ones. Katatonia flirt with the best elements of all of their eras to create the best release of their entire discography. The really long song lengths of Dance of December Souls are cut down to 6-7 minutes with the longest track Brave clocking in at 10:16

Brave Murder Day, named after the first three tracks of the album, is Katatonia's second full-length album, released in 1996 by Avantgarde Music. The Century Black reissue of the album also includes the four tracks from the band's For Funerals to Come EP, while the later Peaceville reissue contained all 3 tracks from the Sounds of Decay EP. In 2004 Northern Silence Productions released the album on vinyl.

Note: This album originally went to the pressing plant completely unmastered, hence the low output of audio and lack of various EQ/FX enhancements. It was finally mastered for the first time in 2006 when Peaceville Records re-released it. The initial cd pressings had a purple logo, but it was hardly visible, so Avantgarde Music changed the logo to black/white on the later pressings.

Next to Discouraged Ones and Night Is The New Day! If I were to Recommend any 90's Metal album/albums. It would be Morning rise 1996. Brave Murder Day 1996. Discouraged Ones 1998. The album starts with the 10-minute "Brave", perhaps the most definitive Brave Murder Day song. Grey guitar lines slowly dissolve during tense, mournful passages thanks to the distant, simple production of Opeth's and Katatonia's earlier producer Dan Swano. The whole album is laced with repeated key themes, which show little variation on the following songs, giving the impression that they are just parts of a huge composition a la Edge of Sanity's Crimson (also featuring Mikael Akerfeldt as a guest).
