Let's Change the World with Music is the ninth studio album by the English pop group Prefab Sprout. It was released on 7 September 2009 by Kitchenware Records. It was the band's first album of new material since 2001's The Gunman and Other Stories (excluding 2003's I Trawl the Megahertz, which at the time was considered to be a solo album by group leader Paddy McAloon) and marked a return to Sony Music, Kitchenware's parent label.

Prefab Sprout were formed in Newcastle, England, in 1977 by Paddy McAloon, who sings and plays guitar and piano, and his bass-playing younger brother, Martin.

Most recently, prior to Let’s Change the World, McAloon had released his only solo album, I Trawl the Megahertz, in 2003, and, before that, a Prefab Sprout record, The Gunman and Other Stories, in 2001. McAloon remains best known for Prefab Sprout’s 1985 album Steve McQueen - titled Two Wheels Good in the . and its singles Faron Young and When Love Breaks Down. McAloon suffers from tinnitus, and the hearing issue has sidelined his performing career over the past decade.

Prefab Sprout in the 80s. Photograph: Photoshot/Hulton Archive. His ambivalence about the tension between the sometimes conflicting demands of the muse and the market has led him to strange places. On Meet the New Mozart (from Let’s Change the World with Music), McAloon sang: Meet the new Mozart, He’s in the bed where commerce, Sleeps with art, Who can blame him?, No pauper’s grave this time round, Will claim him. For all of that, it’s pretty clear that, as long as the annual royalties from earlier successes pay his mortgage, McAloon’s continuing reclusiveness shows no sign of abating. I would be amazed if America is a portent of a new album.

Jordan: The Comeback is Prefab Sprout's largely successful attempt to embrace the breadth of popular music; wisely reuniting with producer Thomas Dolby, Paddy McAloon freely indulges his myriad ambitions and obsessions to weave a dense, finely textured tapestry closer in spirit and construction to a lavish Broadway musical than to the conventional rock concept LP.

Prefab Sprout's first album, Swoon, was released in March 1984. Containing neither of the first two singles (but leading off with the delightful "Don't Sing," their third), Swoon is in retrospect a surprisingly brittle record, full of difficult songs that take unexpected left turns and have all but impenetrable lyrics. That said, there are more ideas per bar in Swoon than in any chart record released in 1984, and the songs' charms reveal themselves after a few listens. After an eight-year layoff, McAloon returned to recording as Prefab Sprout and released the self-produced, performed, and recorded Let's Change the World with Music. This set's songs and concept date to 1992 and were originally to be recorded as the follow-up album to Jordan: The Comeback; for various reasons, those sessions never happened.
