Ritual de lo habitual is the second studio album by Jane's Addiction, released on August 21, 1990, by Warner Brothers. Co-produced by Dave Jerden, it was the band's final studio album before their initial break-up in 1991. Singles from Ritual de lo Habitual include "Been Caught Stealing" and "Stop!". Ritual de lo habitual is certified 2 Platinum in the . In 1990, just one month after being released, the album had sold 500,000 units.

Released in the summer of 1990, Ritual was, in many ways, the last hurrah of the vitriolic band who would be heralded by some pundits as the best . rock band to ever whip their dicks out on stage, right up there with other big . bands that have been known get wild and crazy onstage sometimes, like Guns N’ Roses, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Doors.

Jane's Addiction was scheduled to begin recording its next album in mid-1989. Navarro later stated he had almost no recollection of working on the album due to his addiction to heroin. Ritual de lo Habitual was released in 1990. To support it, the band embarked on a lengthy tour. Farrell recalled, "That thirteen-month tour behind Ritual was half the reason we wound up unable to stand one another. This track also appeared on the soundtrack album Songs of Anarchy: Volume 2. In December 2012, FUSE TV named Jane's Addiction single, "Underground", one of the top 40 songs of 2012. In May 2013, the band performed at the Bottlerock Festival in the Napa Valley, along with the Violent Femmes, Macklemore, The Black Keys, Cake, Train, Blues.

Ritual de lo Habitual finds Jane’s Addiction thin and wandering, blowing ploys that worked before - overdubs and echoes, loose jamming, Farrell’s playground melodies. Split into a hard-rockin’ side and a prog-rock side, the album doesn’t cohere - whatever the band members have been doing for the last two years, they haven’t been practicing much. Sure, there are moments - the opener, Stop, has an amazing bridge, Ain’t No Right admirably sums up Farrell’s creed ( Ain’t no right/Ain’t no wrong/There’s just pleasure and pain ) and Been Caught Stealing is a real jewel.

Album · 1990 · 9 Songs. As grand (and grandiose) as Nothing’s Shocking, Jane’s Addiction’s major-label debut seemed, its follow-up Ritual de lo Habitual outstripped it sonically and in its ambition. With alternative music and metal getting more and more happily acquainted, the quartet smashed together a meld that not only sounded right but was, just a year and change before the release of Nirvana’s Nevermind, very timely.

Those are the words that open Jane's Addiction's second studio album, Ritual de lo Habitual, released on August 21, 1991. If you don't recognize them, don't feel bad: They were spoken in Spanish by an actress named Cindyana Santangelo, or Cindy Lair, who Jane's lead singer Perry Farrell described as "a Latin Marilyn Monroe.
