Wishbone Ash - Argus flac album
Argus is the third album by the rock band Wishbone Ash. It is their most commercially and critically successful album. It peaked at No. 3 in the UK Albums Chart. The album is medieval-themed, featuring a blend of progressive rock, folk, and hard rock, and is considered a landmark album in the progression of twin-lead guitar harmonisation later adopted by bands such as Thin Lizzy and Iron Maiden.

I saw Wishbone Ash play this music live several times in the 1970s. They were a great live band. This was viewed as a great album in the early 1970s and reached in the UK album charts. This was Wishbone’s third album. The band were all living in bedsits in the Ladbroke Grove area of London when it was recorded. The next album Wishbone IV (1973) reached in the UK charts. The band was at the peak of its success after Argus was released. The cover was designed by Hipgnosis who designed the Dark Side of the Moon cover for Pink Floyd.

Whilst Wishbone Ash became more of a guitar-based rock band later in their career, their first three albums are classics of prog rock and this is the best of the three. Most songs feature the excellent twin guitars of Andy Powell and Ted Turner and usually have two or three part vocal harmonies. Time Was" kicks the album off with an acoustic flavour and some nice harmony vocals, before changing to the rockier part of the song. Some nice guitar work here. Sometime World" again starts off slow, before breaking down before a chunky guitar riff appears from the mix and takes.

by their relative facelessness and the generic nature of their compositions, Argus, their third album, was the one on which they looked like they finally were going to forge their own unique amalgamation of all those styles into a sound of their own. The album boasted extended compositions, some of them ("Time Was," "Sometime World") actually medleys of different tunes, played with assurance and developing into imaginative explorations of new musical territory and group interaction.
