Their Satanic Majesties Request is the sixth British and eighth American studio album by the Rolling Stones, released in December 1967 by Decca Records in the United Kingdom and London Records in the United States.

Their Satanic Majesties Request, despite moments of unquestionable brilliance, put the status of the Rolling Stones in jeopardy. They have been far too influenced by their musical inferiors and the result is an insecure album in which they try too hard to prove that they too are innovators, and that they too can say something new.

We struggled haphazardly to make Their Satanic Majesties Request. None of us wanted to make it, but it was time for another Stones album, and Sgt. Pepper’s was coming out, so we thought basically we were doing a put-on. The album’s cover is notable for having the first 3D lenticular layout in music history. Hidden within the image are the faces of all four Beatles – a tribute to The Beatles' inclusion of a Stones' sweater-wearing doll on the cover of Sgt.

The set contains both the stereo and mono versions of every song, all newly remastered by Bob Ludwig, and Michael Cooper’s original 3-D lenticular cover photograph, featuring the band in peak psychedelic regalia.

Their Satanic Majesties Request would be the Stones’ first self-produced album by default, and for all of their talent the results sound derivative and directionless. This is the only purely psychedelic album in their catalog, but novelty can only get you so far. At some point, talent has to show through and entertainment has to take hold.

Please see main release list page for the U.S. 1967 original issues, identified by the trail off area, marked 'Bell Sound', and an inscription of 'SF" (Sam Feldman), and usually a date in the trail off wax. This release page is for the later pressings. Sellers and buyers, take note.
Lucam
Some copies contain at least one side of the true mono mix, with stereo labels and jacket (mispress). Late 70s, early 80s edition. 1C in the dead wax on either side of the record indicates a mono side. Mono mispresses usually have lot of writing in the trial off, and side 2 will have very little run out area, if that side is mono.
