David McAlmont is one of British pop's most precious hidden treasures. His voice is a sublime and miraculous thing, able to convey unimaginable reserves of vulnerability and inner strength in one wavering syllable. And if his mercurial career hasn't touched you yet, here's your catch-up listening list: "Unworthy" by Thieves, "Yes" by McAlmont And Butler (and the whole of their Bring it Back album), "Diamonds are Forever" with David Arnold, and that barely scratches the surface

The producer David Arnold then worked with McAlmont on a version of "Diamonds Are Forever". They went on to work together in 1998 on McAlmont's second album A Little Communication. In the years that followed McAlmont worked occasionally with Ultramarine and Craig Armstrong, and prepared his third album Be. Although hailed by The Guardian as "Britain's first Zen Pop album" it was shelved by his record label, Hut Records, which also chose to drop McAlmont from its artist roster.

David McAlmont is most famous as part of the duo McAlmont and Butler who's hit 'Yes' reached the UK top 10. David's career in music pre-dated this hit by a number of years. First he was part of the 'indie' band 'Thieves' another duo consisting of McAlmont and Saul Freeman. During this period Bernard Butler had also released two solo albums, and had lost his label deal at the collapse of Creation Records. Bernard had written a number of songs which he thought sounded like 'McAlmont and Butler' songs and both artists were able to make up and record a further album 2002's 'Bring it Back'. The album was a Motown-esque.

David McAlmont's solo debut album is, in fact, a lightly revised and reworked version of an album previously scheduled for release by Thieves, the guitar and vocal duo he formed with Saul Freeman in 1992, and whose "Unworthy" single was a club hit in fall 1993. Unworthy" reappears here, together with "Either," the duo's scheduled (but unissued) follow-up single, and much of McAlmont does indeed echo the majestic interplay that was Thieves' calling card
