SHADOWFAX is a Crossover Prog, Progressive Rock artist from United States. This self-titled album was my introduction to the band. I admit that I found it at random, and the only reason I got it was because I liked the name (yep, as far as I know, named after Gandalf's horse); I had no idea what the band sounded like. However, as this was a Windham Hill release, I was expecting something light, perhaps new age sounding, which is basically what I got.

Shadowfax paved the way for many of today's popular world music groups. Beyond their basic instrumentation of lyricon, guitar, violin, bass and drums, there was always a wondrous variety of percussion instruments, usually indigenous to the various cultures that the music attempted to imply.

Shadowfax is Shadowfax's second album, its first for Windham Hill Records. Saxophonist Chuck Greenberg was introduced to Windham Hill's CEO Will Ackerman by Ackerman's cousin Alex de Grassi. The band was signed to a record deal in early 1982. Angel's Flight" – Chuck Greenberg 4:05. Wheel of Dreams" – . Stinson & Chuck Greenberg 4:51. Oriental Eyes" – Phil Maggini 4:59. Move the Clouds" – . A Thousand Teardrops" – Chuck Greenberg 4:21.

What Goes Around: The Best of Shadowfax. On its debut album, Shadowfax was a contemporary instrumental quartet led by guitarist G. E. Stinson and Lyricon/sax player Chuck Greenberg, its mostly calm pieces full of carefully placed riffs played by clearly delineated instruments. A true ensemble, Shadowfax can be listened to with pleasure for its individual players and its group sound on this and several subsequent Windham Hill albums. 1 Angel's Flight Shadowfax 4:1.
