In Dreams is the fourth LP record by Roy Orbison with Monument Records recorded at the RCA Studio B in Nashville, Tennessee and released in 1963. It is named after the hit 45rpm single "In Dreams. In 2004 Rolling Stone named the title song number 319 on their 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

In Dreams" is a song composed and sung by rock and roll performer Roy Orbison. An operatic ballad of lost love, it was released as a single on Monument Records in February 1963. It became the title track on the album In Dreams, released in July of the same year. The song has a unique structure in seven musical movements in which Orbison sings through two octaves, beyond the range of most rock and roll singers.

Title Track off Roy Orbison’s 1963 album, In Dreams. Although wildly popular at the time, the song was largely forgotten until its use in David Lynch’s Blue Velvet. com/watch?v u5VU8GJcg24. In Dreams" Track Info. Written By Roy Orbison. Release Date January 1, 1963.

When Orbison asked Lynch if he could use footage of the film in a video for the re-recorded "In Dreams," Lynch not only agreed, but offered to help with the song. With T Bone Burnett producing, Lynch directed Orbison in his performance as he would an actor in a film, and it worked, allowing Orbison to be faithful to the original recording by doing it with no overdubs. Shortly before he died, Roy Orbison recorded a follow-up to this song called "In The Real World" on his 1989 album Mystery Girl. More songs from Roy Orbison. More songs inspired by dreams

Roy Orbison's 1963 album of the same name, recorded for the Monument label, is devastating for a number of reasons, namely that his "Blue Bayou" and his readings of Johnny Mercer's "Dreams" and Stephen Foster's "Beautiful Dreamer" are here, as is his gorgeous reading of Cindy Walker's "Shahdaroba. Half of these cuts were recorded during the sessions for Sings Lonely and Blue, the other half in Nash Vegas in 1963 with Fred Foster producing both. The big difference on this set is the less intrusive presence of the Anita Kerr Singers
